" No Identity Woman” Comments Essay

In this passage coming from " Zero Name Woman, ” Maxine Hong Kingston imagines what old globe China was just like, and paints a picture of any repressive, totally ordered contemporary society in which people were essentially unable to have non-public lives. Almost everything had to be performed for the sake of the family's or perhaps village's health. In such a globe, Kingston's aunt represents the worst sort of transgressor, 1 whose exclusive lusts disrupted the social order and threatened the particular existence from the village. Kingston uses interesting and inventive stylistic processes to represent the " circle” or " roundness” of Chinese life and the struggle this produces for both the community and No Brand Woman.

The village that Kingston's great aunt lives in was very stringent and had their particular set rules on how world should live. " If perhaps my great aunt had tricked the relatives at the time of significant grain brings and serenity, when a large number of boys were born, and wings ended uphad been built on many houses, maybe she may have escaped these kinds of severe treatment. ” (11-14) Kingston clarifies to the reader that in the event the village has been doing really well in maintaining stability, after that maybe the girl could get away with having a kid out of wedlock.
